How to Choose the Best Bed Sheets
Which raises the following question: What characteristics should you look for when shopping for the best affordable luxury sheets? Consider the following factors:
Material

The higher the quality of the material used in your bedding, the more luxurious it will feel. Cotton with long staples, silk, linen, bamboo, and other natural fibers are all excellent choices. Each of these fabrics has its own distinct characteristics and qualities.
Cotton, for example, is soft and breathable, whereas bamboo is renowned for its extraordinary lightness.
Count of Threads
When people consider luxuriousness, the thread count is frequently the first thing that comes to mind.
While the term “thread count” technically has a meaning (it refers to the number of threads woven into a square inch), it is not always the case that a higher thread count equates to higher quality sheets, particularly when shopping online. This is because manufacturers can be inventive — and deceptive, as Consumer Reports notes.

Ply Ply is a term that refers to the number of yarns that have been twisted together to form a single thread. Single-ply fabrics are constructed using a single thread, while double-ply fabrics are constructed using two threads, and so on.
Bedding can feel lightweight and thin or thick and expensive, depending on the ply. There are, however, trade-offs. Double-ply fabrics, on the other hand, may be less breathable than single-ply fabrics.
Weave

The weave is the foundation for the “feel” of sheets. For instance, while percale and sateen are both made of cotton, they have a very different feel due to the way they are woven.
Percale is synonymous with “crisp cotton sheets.” If you’ve ever wondered, “What type of sheets do 5-star hotels use?” The answer is almost certainly percale.
Meanwhile, sateen is prized for its silky, smooth sheen. While percale and sateen are distinct fabrics, they are both synonymous with luxury. Neither is the optimal option. Rather than that, it is a matter of individual preference.
Craftsmanship

True craftsmanship can be difficult to come by in today’s fast-paced world. However, it is worth seeking out.
Expert craftsmanship represents an investment in the aesthetics, comfort, and durability of a product. It maximizes the material, thread count, ply, and weave of a sheet set.
